Break Predictable Fashion Codes with CODE

A wearable leather collection by Ministry Of Design in collaboration with Bynd Artisan, the modular necklace accessory lets you create your look and attitude from single pendant to geometric vest

AIMED AT INDEPENDENT WOMEN keen to create their own accessories, Ministry of Design (MOD) and Bynd Artisan conceptually deconstructed the classic tuxedo, distilling it down to a single angular leather module. MOD is known for their sleek architectural and interior design projects. Stationery makers Bynd Artisan has 100 years experience in traditional bookmaking and luxury leather craftsmanship.

A starting point for infinite compositions that enables wearers to create infinite compositions by combining modules, CODE is ultimately conceived as a system for creation rather than a singular creation. Petite pendant or commanding vest, CODE also seeks to blur the boundaries between apparel and accessory.

.

For CODE’s 2019 debut MOD created the “Launch Edition” based on a 6-module composition available in a trio of tonal attitudes: CODE CLASSIC (S$250) – a pure black composition; CODE SOFT (S$250) – a pastel composition and CODE ALCHEMY(S$300) – a silver and gold composition. CODE expansion kits (S$40 – $60) come in packs of two modular units. CODE is available at Bynd Artisan retail shops and on their website.

Inspirational women share their stories and the CODE they live by

ANDREA DECRUZ

Founder, CINQ Studio

What is your CODE?

I have always lived by the code that my mind is a powerful tool. Hence, I could be anything I want; anyway I want. In life, you may be in the worst of times and the worst of situations. But if you let your mind take control, all will be well.

How does your CODE manifest in your style/looks?

Because my mind is such a powerful thing,

I realise that I could be powerful one day, demure the next and fierce the day after.

Tell us about your CODE composition.

I call it a necklace because you can wear it so many ways you want. I personally feel that if you dress in a powerful way – just put on a suit jacket or a good tailored suit, you will feel empowered. I structured this necklace the way I would a suit or a jacket.

What is your CODE?

I think it is really important to distill things to its core and then make that the main thing; to major on the major. That is how I make my decisions, how I think about life and how I dress.

How does your CODE manifest in your style/looks?

I like taking a statement piece and making it the key feature, with everything else being a little more mute.

Tell us about your CODE composition.

I love distilling and focusing, and I wanted to compose a piece that was more centered and essentialised; it also suits my petite frame better.

What is your CODE?

I live by my company’s motto – which is to inspire others to find their best selves.

How does your CODE manifest in your style/looks?

I came from a really rough patch a couple of

years ago whereby I really hated myself and my body. Everybody’s version of their best selves is unique and different from someone else. How this manifests in my style is that I always go back to basics where I wear things to make me feel good because I feel that when you feel good, you look good.

Tell us about your CODE composition.

I am a basic person who likes to jazz up simple dresses with a statement piece. My composition mimics a little collar to match my everyday wear.

What is your CODE?

Live a life worth telling. Always step out from your comfort zone and try out new things.

How does your CODE manifest in your style/looks?

I always dress differently, so if you see something on the rack and be like “who would wear that?” – I will be the person who buys it.

I used all the modules to create this statement necklace which symbolises a butterfly. To me, it represents freedom and how you are able to do anything and everything that you want to do in life. What I really like about this necklace is that you can create many configurations from one set, which is very liberating.

What is your CODE?

I live by trying to go with the flow, with life, and whatever life gives me. I always try to create balance and always remember to have a little bit of fun.

How does your CODE manifest in your style/looks?

I also tend to go with the flow with my dressing.

It depends on how I feel each morning – some days I will dress up like a princess; all feminine. Some days I will just throw on a baggy singlet with bermudas and look like a durian uncle and I will still feel pretty cool and happy.

Tell us about your CODE composition.

I wanted something that is more asymmetrical, something unexpected and I like it as a choker. Unexpected – that is the way to go!

ANG JINYUAN

Founder & Creative Director, Style Lease

What is your CODE?

I always believe that you should either inspire or be intrigued in life – to make things interesting or to inspire people.

How does your CODE manifest in your style/looks?

I generally prefer styles that are clean-cut but I tend to opt for things with details, that are a little interesting. CODE is an epitome of such accessories.

Tell us about your CODE composition.

I configured this necklace so that it is wearable, structured and goes well with my day-to-day wear. I like that it is simple and yet a statement piece.
