Small Luxury Hotels of the World (SLH) welcomes three new hotels this month that demonstrate the kaleidoscope of luxury experiences that our independently minded hotels offer. From a hotel hamlet in the French Alps, a back to nature experience in the jungles of Guatemala, to a classical European feel in the heart of Nanjing city. We also welcome the reopening of a long-time SLH favourite in central London, bringing a taste of Japan to Marble Arch.

The New Jingli Hotel, Nanjing, China

Offering a taste of classical European-style luxury in a city renowned for its rich, historical heritage, The New Jingli Hotel is a boutique escape featuring a palatial lobby, Romanesque columns and Renaissance paintings. The classical feel continues into the rooms with pastel colours, dark wood accents and marble bathrooms alongside the latest technology and rainforest showers. When it comes to dining, guests can choose between international and local cuisine at the Jing Buffet with its open kitchen format or enjoy Nanjing delicacies in A One Kitchen, one of China’s most acclaimed fine-dining restaurants.

Refuge de la Traye in the French Alps will be reopening this winter following a complete renovation and expansion of the original hotel. This ‘hotel hamlet’ is set between lake and mountain and offers a collection of 8 eco-luxury rooms and suites that blend into the landscape and immerse guests in the natural setting. Choose between a cozy Savoyard alpine mazot offering a unique and cosy experience for up to 3 people, or reserve Chalet Edelweiss to enjoy an 80m2 family cottage with generous sofas, crackling fires and views at every turn. The restaurant serves hearty Savoyard specialties while the spa offers restorative treatments including a Milk Bath, Hay Bed, Iyashi Dome Sauna and Wellsystem water massage. In winter it is all about exploring the 3 Vallées with access to 166 ski lifts and 600km of world-class slopes. In summer, children can enjoy the farm to learn about the rural traditions of the mountains.

Bolontiku Boutique Hotel & Spa, San Andres, Guatemala

ZA ZA TA is Brisbane’s latest hotspot, blending Middle Eastern and Mediterranean food and drink. Inspired by the vibrant Tel Aviv dining scene it combines the look and feel of Victorian-era conservatories with a buzzing open kitchen and cocktail bar. Executive Chef Roy Ner brings heritage recipes back to life with dishes like Fried Goats Cheese Pretzels, Herring Tahini and Maremma Spiced Duck Breast, while the cocktail menu champions cold pressed juice cocktails paired with Middle Eastern spices and spirits infused with Israeli fruits.

Aguas de Ibiza Grand Luxe Hotel Adds New Rooms, Rooftop Pool and Restaurant

Aguas de Ibiza Grand Luxe Hotel has expanded adding 32 new premium rooms, a new rooftop pool terrace and a Peruvian restaurant. The new rooms offer private terraces, limestone walls and spacious bathrooms in a building adjacent to the original hotel. On the new rooftop terrace, guests can now enjoy ocean views from the infinity pool and take a gastronomic journey through Peru, Amazonia and The Andes at Maymanta restaurant, headed up by Chef Omar Malpartida. Torralbenc Hotel has recently introduced a ‘llaut’, a traditional wooden fishing boat, which gives guests the opportunity to discover hidden inlets and white sand beaches along Menorca’s coast like a local. Not built for speed, the 14m ‘Talati’ meanders from cove to cove allowing ample opportunity for relaxing in the spacious prow area, diving into clear waters to experience the Mediterranean biodiversity and enjoying the sunset over dinner.
