Turn to preserved moss and other preserved greenery from Mosscape if you’re too busy to maintain your dream vertical garden

Singapore is a beautiful city lush with trees and greenery no matter which neighbourhood you venture to. Many designers, architects and homeowners want this green exterior to flow into their homes and their buildings to soften their hectic lifestyles.

There are many ways to bring the green inside, even if your living space is small. Vertical green walls are excellent for these small spaces, and you do not need a designer to plan and construct one. What you need to fill up your vertical garden with could start with products from Mosscape.

Mosscape comes under Nyee Phoe Group (NPG), a 108-year-old family business providing quality horticulture and landscape services in Singapore. The Group is known for its HortiTainment concept with the award-winning landscape consultancy company, Nyee Phoe Flower Garden as its flagship division. Together with Petals & Leaves (creative floral services) and Gardenasia (nature-based events company), the three companies focus on their respective clientele while leveraging on each other to strengthen the Nyee Phoe presence.

The Japanese have revered moss for centuries, drawing upon the soft, low carpet of green made up of thousands of tiny flowerless plants. Moss and other green plants are perfect for that vertical green wall, which can be arranged by plant colour and grids into an art piece. If you’re worried about the greenery dying on you because of your busy lifestyle Mosscape’s eco-friendly product range includes both preserved and artificial foliage, moss, flowers and green walls. These products are not only affordable and long-lasting, but also require low maintenance.

Of course if you want real plants and real greenery, Nyee Phoe Group’s other horticulture and landscaping segments happily provide those.

Mosscape Concept pop-up store is located at Scotts Square till 31 July 2019.

Preserved moss and foliages are extremely resistant and long lasting.”

Green walls are perfect for bringing nature into Singapore homes and businesses. Mosscape provides preserved moss, foliage and even flowers for easy maintenance and cost. How do you preserve these products of nature?

KE: The freshly harvested foliage or flowers enter a proprietary process to absorb a specific mixture of 100% plant-based and bio-degradable preservation formula. The preservation liquid replaces the sap and water within the plant, effectively forming a still image of nature, and creating a unique and 100% natural product. The preserved flowers and plants remain beautiful and unchanged for months without watering and light, and are virtually maintenance-free.

Are you seeing more and more architects and interior designers providing indoor and outdoor green landscaping for buildings – why is this trend increasing in Singapore?

Singapore’s green landscape is very much a government-led initiative. To hit the new target of 200ha of building greenery, set as part of the Sustainable Singapore Blueprint a few years ago, the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) will ramp up and enhance its existing Landscaping for Urban Spaces and High-Rises (Lush) programme, which was first launched in 2009, to incentivise developers and building owners to integrate greenery into their projects.

How do we clean a green wall that has your preserved moss and foliage in it?

Preserved moss and foliages are extremely resistant and long lasting. Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight. The only care the product requires is occasional removal of dust, ideally with an air spray or air blower; or alternatively a dusting with a soft cloth.

Your company has won many awards from rooftop gardens to commercial offices to balconies to large residential gardens. What factors contribute to your success?

It’s all about the team!  Without our dedicated team from design to construction, we would not be able to build gardens that inspire.

You must travel a lot. Which country’s gardens and landscaping fascinate you?

Most gardens fascinate. A garden is able to showcase and bring out the culture of each country, which is truly breathtaking.

You’re a strong advocate of bringing HortiTainment to the public. What is HortiTainment and how does Nyee Phoe Group help push this cause?

NPG’s vision is to create holistic experiences to introduce a naturally-inspired perspective to life. This vision, termed as ‘HortiTainment’ (Horticulture & Entertainment) is what drives Nyee Phoe’s journey till today.
