What is Si Dian Jin 四点金 ?
Si Dian Jin is a traditional custom that is usually practised by the Chinese Teochews. It refers to the 4 pieces of gold consisting of a necklace, a ring, a bangle and a pair of earrings, presented to the bride as a betrothal gift by the mother-in-law. The Si Dian Jin set is an important symbolic gesture of welcoming the bride into the family and an assurance to her that she would always be well taken care of.
Though the Si Dian Jin tradition varies widely from family to family, this tradition today has been widely adopt by the other Chinese communities. It signifies acceptance and love, and it will continue to remain as a cherished tradition to strengthen the bride and groom family ties.
